after being brought to the emperor, thrawn suggests to palpatine that the empire could use his skills in military strategy in exchange for the safety of the chiss in the future. palpatine accepts these terms and allows thrawn to join the coruscant royal university on a three month tenure to finish out the rest of eli vanto's term.
